What can be registered as a trademark?

Words, logos, slogans, shapes, colours and combinations that are distinctive and capable of graphical representation. Descriptive and generic marks are refused.

What is the difference between ™ and ®?

™ can be used from the filing date to indicate a claim; ® can only be used once the mark is registered (TM-11 issued). Misuse of ® can attract penalties.

How long does registration last?

10 years from the date of filing, renewable indefinitely in successive 10-year terms.
